Aug. 31: Overdose Awareness Balloon Release

Hosted by Just Believe Recovery PA. This is a free event and Just Believe Recovery Center will be providing all materials. Saturday August 31st at 6:30 PM, 100 Lincoln Ave. Carbondale.

Overdose Awareness Day is a global event held on August 31st each year to raise awareness of drug overdose and reduce the stigma of addiction. It is also to share the hope that overdose is preventable and that recovery works! To honor those we have lost, there will be a balloon release followed by a candlelight vigil.


Aug. 31 - Sept. 1: Lackwanna County Railfest

Hosted by the Lackawanna County Visitors Bureau at the Steamtown National Historic Site.

The 13th edition of Railfest is a celebration of railroading and industrial machinery, plus music and food to fill our your family enjoyment. Taking place on Labor Day Weekend, we also combine our event with La Festa Italiana on the Lackawanna County courthouse square a few blocks away. Model trains, toy trains, live steamers, track speeders, photographs, artwork and the real trains are all part of what we have to offer. During the opening ceremony of Railfest, the Lackawanna Historical Society announces the recipient of the Alan Sweeney Award. Railroad trips in the Steamtown yard, short distance excursions and photo opportunities are all part of celebrating the end of Summer and the importance of railroading.


Sept. 7: Open House for New Tower

Saturday Sept. 7 at 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM. Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Sept. 8: D&H Distance Run 1/2 Marathon and 5k

Hosted by Rail-Trail Council

The 13.1 mile race will be an ‘out and back’ run on the D & H Rail-Trail from Forest City to Union Dale. This is a USATF certified course •The trail is approximately 15 feet wide and recently resurfaced with fine crushed stone for a superb running surface. •The course is basically flat with a slight upgrade going northward and a slight downgrade for the return and finish. Water stations will be approximately every 2 miles •Post race snacks will be available •The race is a great tune-up for those training for the Steamtown Marathon and a great race for those attempting longer distance runs. •Race participants will be limited to 400. Registration packets can be picked up race day starting at 7:30 AM


Sept. 14: NEPA Valley Wine Train

Trains run September 14th & 28th at 2:00PM, departing from Carbondale Train Station. Tickets are $50.00. Call the Chamber at (570)282-1690 to reserve.

Come aboard and enjoy a premier sampling of local wine and food along four historic railroad stops.


Sept. 28: Andrew Mazza Foundation Golf Tournament & Chicken Barbeque

Sept. 29: Carbondale YMCA Fall Festival

12pm - 4pm at the Greater Carbondale YMCA

oin us for this community event - open to everyone! Held at the Greater Carbondale YMCA, most activities are FREE and OPEN to everyone. There are minimal charges for pumpkin painting, cookie walk and food truck. There will be FREE open swim, bounce houses, fall games, pony rides, goats, chainsaw carving demo, music, Binghamton ZooMobile, donut on a string contest, and more!

Oct. 6: Enchanted Breakfast with Belle

Join Princess Belle as she hosts an Enchanted Breakfast on Sunday, October 6th in the ballroom at the Anthracite Center in Carbondale. Children are encouraged to dress up in their favorite Princess costume or finest attire. Attendees will have the opportunity to visit with Belle, take a short horse & carriage ride outside, make a small craft to take home, and enjoy a delicious breakfast buffet. Full bar options will be available for an additional charge. Please indicate in the notes if you would like to be seated with another group.


Oct. 17: Paint, Sip, Laugh

Date: Thursday, October 17, 2019 Time: Doors open at 6:00pm Address: 41 N. Main St, Carbondale Cost: $35 (includes 16x20 canvas with all painting supplies plus complimentary light snacks)

Reservations required. No experience necessary. Our instructor, Bea, will walk you through your painting step by step to create your own masterpiece

Oct. 5: Chili Fest

Saturday October 5th 11:00am - 12:30pm. Community Bible Church of Greenfield Township.

Community Bible Church’s annual chili fest will be held on Saturday, October 5th, 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m, Route 107 (Heart Lake Road), a half-mile from Heart Lake Corners and Route 247. Look for the three crosses and lighthouse.


Nov. 16: Turkey Raffle

Saturday, November 16, 2019 at 6 PM – 11 PM, at Whites Crossing Volunteer Fire Company.

Annual Turkey raffle will be held on Nov 16th Tickets are $1 a piece see any member. At the event there will be food and refreshments along with bingo tickets, 50/50 wheel, baskets and more!
